How To Keep An Above Ground Pool Clear

If you have a swimming pool in the garden, you know that it must be constantly maintained to ensure that you can continue to enjoy beautiful clear and safe water. However, the importance of keeping the pool clean is often underestimated, and there is a lot involved in keeping an Intex pool in top condition.

To make this job perhaps a little easier, we have collected seven tips for you. From tips regarding pH value to automatic cleaning. However, not all tips will apply to every Intex swimming pool, large swimming pools require a slightly different regime than smaller swimming pools.

1. Always measure the pH value in your Intex pool

The pH value measures the acidity of the swimming water is. In principle, the lower the pH value, the better the disinfection of your pool, but the value must also remain healthy for your skin. The ideal pH value of swimming water is between 7.2 and 7.6. At a value of 7.0 the water is neutral; at a higher value the water is basic and at a lower value the water is acidic.

The pH value of your swimming pool is relatively easy to check with the help of test strips. The colours on such a strip indicate whether the values are correct or not.

If you see that the pH value is too high, this means that algae formation and lime deposits can occur. In addition, a high pH value is unhealthy for eyes and skin. You will then have to add pH minus to lower the pH value.

Too low a pH value is bad for your health and skin. For example, you may suffer from irritation of the eyes and mucous membranes. To reduce the balance, you can add pH-plus to the water.

A correct pH value is very important and can prevent various problems. So, you should check your swimming pool regularly with the help of the test strips and read the guidelines that are supplied with the pH raisers and lowers.

2. Think carefully about where you place your pool

How do you determine exactly where you should place your pool? Is it because there is enough space or just because the swimming pool has always been there? The location you choose is also important for the cleaning of your swimming pool. For example, do not place your pool under or near a large tree. Everything that drops from the tree ends up in your swimming pool. So, try to place the pool in as "free" an environment as possible, where there is often more sun, which makes swimming more pleasant. If you have a SunnyTent, you can place the pool near trees, as the SunnyTent covers your swimming pool.

3. Cover your Intex pool when it is not in use

The most important tip we can give you is to cover your pool when you are not using it. By doing so, you can prevent many problems, no dirt such as leaves and insects get into the water. You also protect the pool material with a cover.

The SunnyTent can be used perfectly for this. The additional advantage of the SunnyTent is that it is foldable and that the SunnyTent not only ensures that your water temperature is maintained, but that it even heats the water.

4. Only use tap water to fill the pool

It is always safest to use tap water to fill your pool. Well water or ground water may contain minerals or other substances. If these other substances or minerals come into contact with chlorine, they can mix with the water, causing it to discolour.

5. Measuring is knowing: be careful with chlorine

To keep your Intex pool clear and clean, chlorine tablets are often indispensable. However, you should use them with caution and follow the directions for use carefully. Too much chlorine can damage your health.

When adding chlorine, you must always measure carefully to achieve a sufficient level of chlorine. The normal chlorine value is between 1 and 2 ppm / litre. If there are algae in the swimming pool, the chlorine level may be increased to 3 ppm / litre. This can also be measured with test strips.
Excessive chlorine can be counterproductive. Bound chlorine is chlorine that has been used up. It is still in the water, but it is no longer available for disinfection. This chlorine smells and causes irritation to eyes and mucous membranes. So be cautious with chlorine, too high a concentration can have unpleasant consequences. Therefore, always follow the guidelines, as supplied with the chlorine products.

6. When do you choose automatic cleaning

Whether or not you opt for automatic cleaning depends to a large extent on the size of your Intex pool and the extent to which you use it. For smaller Intex swimming pools, a swimming pool pump is actually not necessary. You can often clean it more efficiently yourself.
A swimming pool pump often only becomes relevant for swimming pools with a diameter of 183 centimetres or more. Some swimming pools contain a cartridge filter or sand filter pump. The method of purification of these pumps differs. A cartridge filter pump contains a paper filter that you must change every 1-2 weeks. A sand filter pump filters through sand or glass grains dirt the size of a sand grain from the water. Before purchasing a swimming pool pump, you should note the diameter of the hose and the connection.

7. Watch out for dead algae

Dead algae often remain in the pool. They are too small for the filter and often sink to the bottom, making it no longer easy to remove on the surface.

You can use a flocculant to solve this problem. This agent binds all loose particles together, making a larger mass, so that they can be filtered or can be removed in some other way more easily.

We at SunnyTent wish you the best with maintaining your pool and of course we wish you lots of swimming fun in a sparkling clean pool!
